Medical Equipment for Hospital

Donation protected
The Institute of Child Health (ICH) is the first pediatric hospital in India, founded by the doyen of pediatrics the Late Dr. K.C. Chaudhuri in Kolkata in 1956. The Institute was inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the year 1957. The Institute is a trust run, non government and non-profit hospital. It is also a Postgraduate Medical centre for DCH, DNB and MD (Pediatrics) courses under the West Bengal University of Medical Sciences recognized by Medical Council of India. The Institute also conducts DMLT (Laboratory Technician’s Course) under the State Medical Faculty. Over the last 61 years the Institute has worked relentlessly to serve the weaker sections of society. The facilities are provided at a very nominal charge. 20% of the indoor beds are free. The Institute also has a Smile Train Project under which cleft lip and palate surgery is provided free of charge.
The consultant physician and surgeons provide honorary service and the post graduate students of the Institute are the indoor residents. The Institute runs mainly on the relatively small amounts of money received from the patients and donations from many individuals and organizations. This money is entirely utilized in the day to day running of the hospital.  Therefore finance has always been a major headache as far as  improvement of technological facilities required to provide tertiary level health care to the increasing numbers of ailing children both in the outpatients as well as indoor department is concerned.

The Institute has to improve and expand and in this respect  now has a project to construct a new G+10 storied building with 300 beds costing approximately Rs. 33 crores(apprx $700,000 AUD) i.e. Rs. 3 crores per floors. The Institute has also a cancer research project (Mrinalini Cancer Research Centre) which has  been inaugurated recently. However this still requires instruments like pulse oximeters, monitors and at least one ventilator entailing a total expenditure of approximately Rs. 25.00 lakhs(apprx. $51,000 AUD). We therefore appeal to all benevolent individuals and organizations to help us to take the Institute forward.

Having heard about the work being carried out at this institution through my uncle (Dr. Debashish Mukherjee) who is a doctor there, I wanted to help and so decided to do a fundraiser to assist the organization to upgrade its facilities and help more children in need. My goal at the moment is $2000 but I hope to increase this amount if I can get your generous support. The poor children of India really need your help.
