Medical Costs for R. Cavenaugh

Robert Cavenaugh is a father of four daughters and grandfather of four grandchildren. Almost 7 weeks post-craniotomy and the night before Father's Day, Robert was taken to the emergency room of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital after struggling for several days with shortness of breath and chest pain. It was discovered that Robert had bilateral pulmonary embolisms of the highest risk level. Robert was then admitted to the hospital. More testing revealed that Robert also had a blood clot in his leg and a large clot in his heart. The blood clots in his lungs and heart caused other distress in his body, which lead to reduced kidney function. Doctors determined that Robert would need a higher level of care than could be provided at RRH. While awaiting transfer to a different hospital, Robert was moved to the ICU. After a stressful and frustrating transfer process, Robert was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Doctors at Cedars were very optimistic that they would be able to remove the clots from his heart and lungs with a minimally invasive procedure. They planned to run a vacuum through his arteries to retrieve the clots. Unfortunately, when Robert was taken into the operating room his condition worsened dramatically before the procedure even began. His heart and his lungs were no longer able to keep up with the stress of his condition. The surgical team performed CPR and set him up on a heart and lung machine. Because brain injury is of concern now, Robert is being kept at a low temperature for the next couple of days to prevent any further damage. He is currently not conscious and considered to be in critical condition. His family is in need of funds to cover expenses of staying near the hospital. Robert will also incur large medical bills.
