Hi, my name is Jeremy Avis, a musician and ethnomusiclogist. In the 90s and early 2000s I studied music in Cameroon. One of my teachers was the remarkable Prince Shei Nfor Dennis, who at that time was Director of the National Ballet Company. He was a musical titan, playing a huge variety of traditional instruments and an insipred choreographer who took dance shows around the Globe. Unfortunately he is now very sick in country with no free healthcare and with a government that never paid him his due pension.
Help Support Shei Nfor Denis!!
Shei Nfor Denis, former Director of the National Ballet of Cameroon, has dedicated over 40 years to promoting Cameroonian culture worldwide. He represented the nation in more than 25 countries, across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, winning international recognition at major festivals and world events.
Despite his lifelong dedication, Denis was retired in 2012 without pension or benefits. For more than a decade, he has struggled to provide for his wife and five children, living in very modest conditions in Yaoundé. To survive, he has relied on handcrafting and selling traditional musical instruments such as flutes, shakers, and sanza.
Sadly, his health has recently deteriorated, forcing him to spend much of his resources on hospital care, for help with Typhoid and recurrent Malaria. With his condition still fragile, Denis is unable to continue his small trade or afford the medicines he urgently needs.
Please if you can make even a small donation this will go along way to supporting him at this time.
