Medical Chair For Martin

Hi my names Craig & some of you may know that my partners dad (Martin) has been in hospital since 7th August 2021. He was rushed to the hospital after suffering with what he thought was a cold - this turned out to be pneumonia which then triggered sepsis. He was admitted to the intensive therapy unit (ITU) at Chesterfield Royal Hospital where he spent a long 3 months on a ventilator & fighting to get better despite every setback.

He was then transferred to Wythenshawe hospital who specialise in long term ventilation patients & who have been incredible in weaning him off the ventilator & he has just managed 4 days ventilator free! Although that’s great news for all of us especially him, we know it is going to be a long road to recovery & he’s likely to need extra help when he does get discharged. This has got us thinking about what adaptations we may need to consider & any equipment he may need to enable him to continue living an independent life once he’s home. One thing that would be a big help is a medical chair - this will enable Martin to easily sit/stand on his own, be able to sit in comfort by adjusting the chair where necessary & be able to use the chair for naps where he needs to in the daytime with the chair going into a flat position.

We are trying to plan this as a surprise for Martin so that he doesn’t need to stress or worry about anything when the time comes that we can start discussing discharge planning.
