Medical Bills for Baby Ainsley
Donation protected
On July 20th, Rebecca and Brandon welcomed baby Ainsley into the family. Everything about the pregnancy was idyllic with no foreseen issues; however, Ainsley was born with multiple complications. She was severely anemic and immediately required multiple blood transfusions in order to survive. Ainsley was quickly transferred by ambulance from Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg to the UVA NICU. Mama was also transferred to UVA by ambulance in order to be closer to Ainsley.
Upon arrival, she was put on a cooling pad to decrease her body's need for oxygen due to the severe anemia. It was found that she had an enlarged heart, liver, and spleen. Blood was not getting into her lungs very well to gather oxygen and deliver it to the rest of the body. Her body suffered from severe edema, and she had to be put on a respirator, along with nitric oxide, and a feeding tube. Over her stay in the NICU she had multiple platelet transfusions, MRIs of her brain, CT scans of her heart, X-rays of her skull, and many other tests and procedures. The doctors still do not know the cause of all her medical issues. Moving forward, Rebecca and Brandon will regularly return to UVA for follow-up visits with neurology, neurosurgery, cardiology, hematology, hepatology, infectious disease, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and genetics. It is unknown as to what special care and therapies Ainsley will require in the future, if certain milestones are not met.
Ainsley was discharged on August 16th, after spending 28 days in UVA Hospital, but her followup care will likely last for years to make sure she's hitting her major developmental milestones. Any donations will be greatly appreciated. All financial help will be used for medical bills, travel expenses, time off from work, future appointments, and therapies.
Rebecca and Brandon thank you for any help you can give!
