Medical bills and mobility aids for John Fornaro

On December 2, 2022 John (64) suffered a 14 foot fall and was immediately in intense pain and unable to move. He was flown by helicopter to the University of Maryland where he then went into surgery for broken vertebrae and a crushed spinal column. Afterward Doctors made the grave diagnosis that John would almost certainly never regain the use of his legs.

He is currently on the long road to rehabilitation and learning to navigate life without the use of his lower body.

For the past 30 years, John has been self-employed, working and living at the aquaculture facility that he built himself. This being the case, the accumulating medical bills and the necessary care going forward are extremely daunting. Not to mention, his 150-year-old farmhouse is not at all compatible with his current needs.

The purpose of this campaign is to humbly ask for assistance in paying for John's medical bills, physical rehabilitation, and the essential renovations to his home so he can return to it. The end goal is to get John back to some semblance of his former everyday home life.

At the moment our priorities, aside from John's physical recovery, are purchasing the necessary equipment that will allow him to live at home. Although it is changing day by day, his current needs include a hospital bed, wheelchair, renovated bathroom facilities, and changes to the house construction to make it wheelchair navigable.

Although John is currently in strong spirits, he and those around him are well aware that the most difficult steps are yet to come, physically, mentally, and financially.

Attached to this page are some photos of John and a link to a video taken by the fire department of him being airlifted on Dec 2. We've also attached some samples of the bills and estimates we are dealing with.
