Medical &Care fund for Walter Lines

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Margaret Lines and this fundraising is for my dad, Walter Lines Sr.

Walter has been battling pain and gradually having more issues with mobility since his spine nearly collapsed in 2008 and bars were inserted in his back-a procedure which the doctor admitted may have damaged some nerves.

This past September, he had a sudden sharp decline in mobility, a small stroke and a fall that left him on the floor for several hours unable to get up. He was admitted to the hospital for multiple health issues, including muscle breakdown and a pressure wound on his right thigh.

After initial stabilization, he was sent to a "skilled nursing facility" where he received poor treatment and the wound became severely infected - down to the hip socket. Upon re-admission to the hospital, a doctor determined the wound to be so serious that it was his opinion that staying only 8 more days at that facility would have resulted in death.

Within the last three months, Walter has undergone four surgeries on his wound and has been sent to a different skilled nursing facility for wound treatment and physical+occupational therapy. He has been on a wound vac and has been on a no-sitting restriction up thru January 2nd-and a 15 minute only sitting regiment since. The recovery from the surgeries and no-sitting requirements have resulted in weak muscles in his legs again which is leading to a new issue in his mechanics of walking. In addition, the wound hasn't been healing properly and the doctor has determined a fifth surgery will be needed, which will require additional hospitalization followed by a course of long-term rehabilitation.

Even with his no sitting requirements, muscle weakness and continued wound care, his insurance company (medicare plan) determined that starting December 22nd, 2017 they would no longer authorize coverage for skilled nursing services. Starting December 23rd,2017 a Medicaid co-pay of $200 per day has been accumulating as charges-up to $860 per month. We have tried two recent appeals, but have been denied both times.

We are in urgent need of funds as bills have started coming in. In December, a bill for $1800 arrived for the ambulance service provided back in September. Any day now, we will receive the first bill from the current Skilled Nursing Facility for at least the December stay of $860 + $50 for a treatment received while at the facility. We will also receive a $860 bill for January. My parents are unable to pay for these bills with their limited income.

More expenses will also arise in the near future, as we face the reality that he will need medical equipment, plus we will need to get work done around the house to make the living space more accessible for him. New furnishings will be required and some old furniture will need to be hauled away. Continued therapy, including possible home care, will be needed as well.

All funds received will be provided to him and mom to make payments on the medical bills coming in;  to purchase the equipment he needs/prepare the house for his discharge back home once he's stable; and to pay for the determined appropriate continued care.

Any donation you can provide will be very helpful and appreciated.

Dad has gone thru so much these past three months and his spirits need lifting. Knowing that there are those out there who care enough to help donate will mean a lot to him and to the whole family.

Thank you for your support.
