Medical aid for Pakistan

Hello folks.

My name is Hadia Aslam, I am a medical doctor from England and have spent a big chunk of my practising years abroad in relief settings; volunteering and setting up clinical units in refugee camps.

I hope everyone who knows my work in the disaster settings will continue to support my current mission in aid of the victims of the floods in Pakistan. The aim is to support existing medical and/or general aid providers and/or seek to scope new areas where healthcare/aid is needed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Once these gaps are identified, the aim is to attempt a midterm support strategy given the emergency aid period will soon progress into the very challenging intermediate disaster period where diseases such as Cholera, Hepatitis and Malaria are few of the many conditions which the locals will face with minimum resources. Cut off from the mainland Pakistan, and coupled with starvation, dehydration, poor nutrition, shelter shortages and high trauma stress levels the conditions of the locals will only go from bad to worse.

I aim to be there by the 15th of September to do as much as I can in supporting the ongoing medical and aid work on ground. I am unclear at this point how long my personal involvement will last.

Health Point Foundation, A UK and USA registered charity have kindly come forward to support this mission and I sincerely hope this is a start to a productive chapter where we can offer our best at sustaining the vulnerable communities hit by these deadly climate changes.
