My name is Mark Edge, I have been a host on the nationally syndicated radio program Free Talk Live for nearly 14 years. I love FTL but things have changed in my life. I am not on the air 6 nights a week, any longer. The radio ad market has softened substantially making paying our bills harder. I want more flexiblity in my schedule.
There has been much drama surrounding FTL recently and I must say, I am exhausted with it. I just want my own project where I can make my own problems, instead of dealing with everyone else's problems.
Lots of people are encouraging me to quit FTL and do my own thing. I do have a side project that I intend to ramp up. This side project is intended to supplement my income and possibly, if I am wildly successful with it, to supplant FTL as my primary income. I am not claiming to be leaving FTL, but changes are underway there too.
I have been producing this side project, The Edgington Post, for several years. I haven’t focused on it because it was just a hobby, a way to talk to people that I would not otherwise be able to talk to or to help boost the sales of an FTL advertiser. Everything was done under the FTL banner without much promotion.
If we want to do this thing, I am in. I have been working towards this goal, incrementally, for several months and Laura, my wife, has been wanting to do it for even longer. I’m going to need a real website. Development of a website isn’t cheap or easy. I also need new equipment. I may need to compensate co-hosts. Lastly, I need financial support until we get to takeoff speed.
It is my intention to make EdgePo profitable immediately by releasing episodes every time I fundraise $300. This way I am not putting time into something that isn’t ever going to pay, it will pay right away. I may try episodes with affiliate marketing and see how they do, but I am pessimistic about ad funded content in the current media age. I am asking for an initial funding amount of $10,000. This will guarantee 50 new episodes (discounted to $200 per episode). For those familiar with the previous product, I have much bigger plans. That is why I need a foundation of new episodes. The old product was a cheap hobby, the new one will be much better, with more interesting interviews and some ambush style crushing of statist haters.
EdgePo in its previous form got around 1000 listens per episode, and much acclaim from listeners. Acclaim is free. So if you do really want to see me do something on my own, now is your chance. I will, of course, take programming suggestions of funders very seriously.
I will modify the overall goal downward as I get donations to reflex donations via Paypal, Ether and BTC.
