Please consider donating money to pay for the air ambulance so Mom Nancy can be transferred home to Maryland before July 27th, 2017.

Current Situation
My Mom Nancy Ruth Greathouse (formerly Nancy Ruth Kelley) is trapped in Anchorage, Alaska.  She and her husband, Paul Greathouse, were travelling on a two week cruise in April 28th, 2017 when she suffered a respiratory crisis called myasthenic crisis.  She was medevac from cruise ship to a hospital Juneau Alaska.  The hospital in Juneau could not treat her appropriately so they medevac her to Alaska Regional hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. During her 20 day stay in their critical care unit Mom Nancy fought to stay alive. She has since been moved off the artificial respirator and was transferred to St. Elias Hospital for rehabilitation.

Here's a little medical sidebar, according National Institutte of Health, Myasthenia Gravis called MG for short “is an autoimmune disorder affecting neuromuscular transmission, leading to generalized or localized weakness characterized by fatigability.”  In layman terms her immune system is attacking her muscles which weaken her muscles.  A myasthenic crisis occurs when the muscles that control breathing weaken to the point that ventilation is inadequate, creating a medical emergency and requiring a respirator for assisted ventilation.

Mom Nancy has made all the efforts she could do to recover.  According to the doctors she is not stable enough to fly home on a commercial flight. She cannot sit for long periods of time or stand. She has be manually transferred bed to wheelchair.  We believe her current medical care in Alaska is inadequate to get her MG under control.  If she were to fly it would require air ambulance to Maryland.

The Plan
Mom Nancy wants to come home to Maryland; she does not want to die in Alaska.  Mom Nancy has almost used up all her Medicare and supplemental insurance money to cover her medical stay in Alaska. She needs to be transferred home before July 27th, 2017 to avoid using up her Medicare lifetime benefit.  According to Medicare case worker, if you use up the lifetime benefit, Medicare will not reset.  Because she is in Alaska and not a resident she cannot apply for Medicaid. She will be cared for at home with her family who loves her.

If you need more details or have a recommendation for Mom Nancy's situation please contact me or my wife directly.   You are also welcome to call Mom Nancy's cellphone directly. She would deeply appreciate hearing from you.
