Meatball the Wonder Dog Recovery

Meatball was adopted on his mom's 50th birthday from Northwest Boxer Rescue. She thought that she was saving him, but he saved her just as equally. Meatball (AKA Louie) is a special dog, and though we do not know what he endured in his previous life, he has emotional scars that show. Meatball fit into his new family right away and he adores his brothers and sisters (both two and four-legged).
On September 17th, Meatball accidentally ran away from his dad in a remote part of Ellensburg. It was their worst nightmare. Our family organized searches that spanned the 15-square mile radius; but he was no where to be found. We used drones daily and trail cameras to try and track where we though he would go. Our community blew us away with their support. Strangers hiked, loaned drones, and prayed for Meatball to come home.
On September 29th, 13 days after he went missing, an angel named Mike brought him home. Mike was not even aware there was a dog missing in the canyon. When he saw Meatball lying on the bank of the Yakima river, he knew he had to rescue him. Mike brought Meatball to the only on-call vet that day, which happened to be Meatball's. My mom and I raced from Yakima to get to the clinic. Mike and his family hugged us and celebrated the return of what they thought was a stray dog.
Meatball has new physical and emotional scars that show what he endured the last two weeks. However, the most severe injuries are from the trauma he sustained falling off a cliff to get to the river. Meatball has been transported the the Washington State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital where he will stay until further notice. The bills are beginning to pile, but we can not give up on this amazing Wonder Dog. Meatball is currently in surgery to remove an obstruction pushing on his spinal cord. This is making it difficult for his back legs and brain to communicate - he will have to relearn how to walk. He will also need a transfusion as he is becoming severely anemic. There are other concerns with liver and kidneys, and possible a slow internal bleed. Meatball will need to have his tail amputated, which broke at the base.
