Meagan (Rebuild Her Life)

Donation protected
The morning of Dec 12, I sat and had coffee in my van with my girlfriend Meagan. Meagan and I live in our E350 4x4 vans and it's a morning tradition to sit in my van and have coffee and chat about our day ahead.  On Saturdays Meagan a avid snowboarder would work at Hoodoo Ski Park to help pay for her yearly ski pass.  As she said goodbye I had no idea how close I came to this being our last morning coffee.

3 hours later I received a call from the hospital that Meagan had been in a serious accident and had severe injuries. When I got to the hospital I found out she had lost control of her van on some black ice and was hit by a Semi truck on her driver side. A CT scan had showed a rib had punctured her diaphragm and her stomach had pushed through collapsing her left lung. They rushed her straight into surgery. I sat in the waiting room for 2 hours anxiously waiting to see if she would be alright. The doctors were able to sew up here diaphragm and put her stomach back in place. They also inserted two tubes into her lung to help it re-inflate over time. She was then moved into the ICU where I waited stressfully for her to wake up. The moment I saw her eyes open I felt so much relief and though she was still very disoriented I could see the relief in her eyes as well.

Besides the broken ribs, punctured diaphragm and collapsed lung, she also has a hairline fracture in her neck, spine and shoulder and some internal bleeding in the arteries that go through her neck to her brain. She is stable and has been moved from ICU, and is still currently recovering in the hospital

Meagan and I have been together since earlier summer. We met at the laundromat, our 4x4 vans giving us an instant bond. We have had several fun adventures from camping on the beach with our vans, Kayaking in mountain lakes, crabbing in Newport, to hunting Chuckar and Quail in the high deserts of Oregon. She was beside me when I lost my trusted canine companion Wheeler and has become someone I could not imagine my life without.

Meagan is very reserved and quiet when you first meet her, but her kindness impresses me beyond words. Many times pain and discomfort can bring out the worst in a person making us short tempered, through this whole ordeal even when the medications are running low and the pain high she has shown nothing but understanding and kindness. Everytime the nurses and physicians come in and help her in some way they never leave without a thank you. Heart can push you through boundaries that strength alone would be no match for, Megan's heart has the power of a thousand horses it seems.  The nurses and physicians couldn't believe that she was coherent and talking when she came into the ER, able to answer questions and give them information on who to call. During physical therapy she never backs down from any of the exercises and is always willing to do more, even with tubes dangling from body.

Meagan's van was not only her transportation, but it was her home. She sold her house and put all her money into building her Ford E350 4x4 van. She wanted something that would be big enough and comfortable enough to live in but also was capable of getting her up to the mountains to snowboard. She spent every dime to turn this van into a functional and comfortable home. Unfortunately, Meagan's insurance only covers liability and personal injury, but it doesn't cover the van itself.

I am creating this GoFundme, to raise money to build Meagan a new home. AJs 4x4 vans in Hillsboro has already stepped up to do the work, but we need to get them something to work with, so we need to buy Meagan a new 7.3 Liter Diesel E350 Cargo Extended Ford Van. These vans with the 7.3 liter in good shape run for anywhere between $9000 to $12,000 dollars. I have set the fundraiser to $15,000 to cover any unexpected costs that we may come across in the build.

Vanlifers know how much our vans mean, they aren't just a car, they are our homes, that place where you feel safe and comfortable. For the non vanlifers imagine what you would feel like if your house was destroyed, that safe comfortable place wiped away in an instant and that can give you and idea of the stress Meagan is feeling right now.  As someone who cares for her very deeply I want to take this stress off of her mind so she can focus on healing, and give her the confidence to know that when she is recovered she will have a new home to go with her new lease of life.
