Help Me Make My First Film!
Donation protected
Hello there! In 2022 I moved to Los Angeles for a number of reasons: 1) Better-paying and more consistent work prospects as a professional nanny 2) Better dating options than what I was finding in Southeast TX (woof) and 3) To finally pursue some lifelong creative dreams such as stand up comedy, improv, and screenwriting...things I wanted to do when I lived in NYC but simply couldn't make happen.
I’ve made a lot of progress and in terms of number three, I’m happy to report I’ve been in a few non-open mic shows as a billed comedian, am in the core track of The Groundlings improv school, and now I’ve completed a short film script that I’m working to turn into an actual short film.
“After Party” is a comedy about a married couple, Kate and Gabe, returning home from a party where, in the kitchen, Gabe confronts Kate about an offhand remark she made at his expense in front of their friends. I feel like I should repeat that it’s a comedy so here we are: It’s a comedy!
I will star as Kate which is slightly terrifying as a “non-actor” but my life these days is all about stretching myself outside of my comfort zone. I won’t be getting paid but I do need to pay the crew of people, as well as the other performer, who will make this film with me. My hope is to use any leftover funds to submit this short piece to various film festivals. So I need your help!
I’m asking for anyone who is interested in supporting to please consider making a donation to get this film made. Please note that GoFundMe takes a percentage of every donation, so if you want me to receive the full donation, please consider doing so by venmo (I'm @Celia-C) or PayPal (@celiagcarver). I will post updates on the progress of reaching my goal.
Those who cannot financially support may be able to help in other ways such as connections for potential crew members—I’ll do a call for that soon and separately.
I’ve wanted to shriek out loud at every step of this process because it feels a little like jumping into a pool of cold, unfamiliar waters but, just like jumping in a pool of cold water, it feels truly invigorating. Making a film is a lifelong dream of mine so I’m incredibly grateful for anyone who can help me achieve it.
Xo and thank you,
C.
