Due to the COVID19 global pandemic, Maryland has seen unprecedented interest in homeschooling. With some local public school districts reluctant to provide timely information to families who are considering switching to legally educating their children at home for the short-term, MDHSA has stepped up to help families find the information they need.
We have been working with the Maryland State Department of Education, local school districts, and even community colleges to gather critical information about re-enrollment issues short-term homeschool families will face in 2021. We share that information on our website , in Maryland homeschool Facebook groups, and through countless emails we receive every day.
MDHSA has always believed that information should be freely available to parents who want the best education possible for their children - but it costs time and money to fulfill that mission. Your financial support will allow us to continue to provide accurate and important information to families who are overwhelmed with the educational choices they face right now. We have upped our fundraising goal to reflect the urgent need for your ongoing support right now.

Who is the Maryland Homeschool Association?
MDHSA is a grassroots, all-volunteer run, secular, and inclusive organization that supports the needs of homeschoolers in the state of Maryland. Founded by Alessa Giampaolo Keener, MDHSA serves as a clearinghouse for information about homeschooling in Maryland and a monitor of regulatory and legislative issues relating to homeschooling.

Levels of Support
Each level of support includes the listed benefits, as well as all benefits for any lower level of benefits that may apply to you.
$25 donation: Receive recognition as a Homeschool Supporter on the MDHSA website.
$50 donation: Receive recognition as a Homeschool Patron on the MDHSA website, along with a clickable link to your business website. If you are a qualifying homeschool co-op, you may apply for free G-Suite for Education privileges.
$100 donation: Receive recognition as a Homeschool Champion on the MDHSA website using your business logo, name, and clickable link to your business website. Receive a special discount offer for a Premium Listing on the MDHSA Service Directory - OR - donate a 1:1 private consultation to a family who cannot afford that service.

Why MDHSA Needs Your Help?
Despite countless volunteer hours from families across the state, for more than 15 years, all the costs associated with maintaining the MDHSA website and its occasional community activities have been paid for by a single family. While helping to make information freely available to Maryland families who homeschool over 28,000 children across the state is a labor of love, it also comes with a financial price tag.
Having recently undergone unexpected heart surgery (and all the copays and deductibles that go with it), Alessa and her family are asking the community for financial help in keeping the MDHSA website going. Your $10, $25, or larger donation will go directly towards supporting the access of helpful and reliable information about homeschooling in Maryland.
How Your Contribution Will Help?
The MDHSA.com website is in need of an overhaul. Your contribution will cover the costs of:
1. Hiring a professional web developer to make MDHSA.com a responsive website that is more easily viewed on phones and other electronic devices. The overhaul will also redesign the homeschool support directories, making them easier to search for classes and service providers that cater to homeschool families.
2. Purchasing a website security certificate
3. Web hosting
4. Additional funds beyond what are needed for the professional web redesign will go towards paying homeschool parents (like yourself) a living wage for contributing quality content that will help MDHSA.com continue to grow
What Else Can You Do?
MDHSA succeeds in meeting its mission of supporting homeschool families when volunteers come forward to help. Our volunteer rolls constantly shift, as families graduate their homeschool kids or transition back into public school. Email us if you have a couple of hours to spare one day – or would like to help out on a more regular basis. We are always in need of help with social media admin duties, writing content for the website, doing research for legislative outreach, curating the community calendar, and responding to new family inquiries.
