The Maryland Book Bank (MBB) is a nonprofit organization committed to cultivating literacy in children from under-resourced communities. On Tuesday, July 23rd, the MBB’s  van was stolen from our warehouse in Baltimore, MD.  The van is a vital part of the MBB’s operations, allowing us to pick up book donations throughout Maryland, drop off donations to children as well as drop off bulk mail 3 days per week for our social enterprise which provides vital revenue for our programs.  While we remain dedicated to our goal of distributing over 400,000 books this year, the theft of our van has complicated our operations.   Baltimore is a city that has embraced the MBB.  Over the past week, we have seen this firsthand - the outpouring of love and support for us during this time has been overwhelming. With no leads on the location of our van, we are asking our community for its generous support to purchase a van that will enable us to continue putting free books into children's hands across Baltimore City and Maryland.   Our van was well-maintained and cared for, but old; therefore, insurance coverage will not even enable us to purchase a pre-owned vehicle. We need generous donors like you to come together to help us with this unexpected cost.      Your support will mean that children across Maryland will have access to the books that they need to be successful in the classroom and in life.
