McRae-Gaines Learning Center is about to embark on a new and exciting phase of its 42-year history as an educational institution in Selma, Alabama. Together with our Board of Director, teachers, and staff we invite you to join in this momentous development as we prepare to move into a new school.
MGLC is Expanding…New Move Underway!
On Thursday, June 25, 2020, the Selma City Council transferred to MGLC right, title and interest to the facility that was Cedar Park Elementary School. Our Board of Directors had worked with Selma City School and the Selma City Council for the past year to serve our children in a larger and safer facility. The situation became even more urgent when over the past five years MGLC began to attract children with developmental delays, six of who are on the autism spectrum. To properly care for and educate these children, handle our growing enrollment, and offer a robust and expanded six-week summer learning program for more than 100 students, we needed an appropriate space.
Renovations Needed for New MGLC School
The former Cedar Park Elementary School needs $300,000 in repairs to be prepared for the coming school year. The school is 37,765 square feet. We have raised $110,000 towards the repairs recommended by Mr. Richard Hudgens, our generous architect. However, once we got into the building, greater challenges became evident.
Our fundraising continues with this request to you to partner with us as we complete these important repairs. We need to raise at least another $100,000. EVERY little bit helps - but you can help even more by sharing this campaign EVERYWHERE! Thank you!
