Kenny Choate medical expenses

One of our employees working for Lucio’s Janitorial Services recently fell ill.  He was found unconscious after the Labor Day Holiday in his small apartment.   When he did not call in and missed a day of work one of his coworkers called police to do a well check on him.  He was hospitalized in critical condition unsure of his surroundings or recognizing coworkers and friends visiting him in the hospital.

Back in 2013 he underwent heart surgery and was unable to return to his job at Greenwood School District due to his health.  His current employer Esmeralda (BB) Lucio has helped him in every way she possibly can.  She knew from her experience having worked with him before hired him to help do part time cleaning services in her buildings as he recovered.  She helped him buy a car to get him back and forth.  His health has been compromised over the past four to five years. He applied for social security in 2016  and was able to secure some initial benefits.  He does not have any Insurance.  He was not able to qualify for Medicare or Medicaid because his social security benefits and age.  Social Services is actively helping at the hospital to see what services and assistance he can get.

I want to introduce Kenny Choate.  He is 61 years old.  He is kind, generous and no matter how he feels always pleasant and willing to give his all.  He has a brother who I am told is in late stages of MS living in another city.  They have talked recently but neither are capable of helping one another.  There is no other family.

As of this Friday September 29th he has been hospitalized.  The first week he was in critical care.  Once he stabilized he was moved up to the 6th floor.  Unable to walk, the staff continued to run tests.  He was found to have kidney damage, diabetes, acid reflux, digestive issues, blood clotting on his lungs, bed sores, inability to sit up or walk, fever, blood pressure and in need of blood transfusions.  The evening of Wednesday the 27th following more testing and a cat scan they found possibly the root of all his problems.  He was told they found a large tumor on his pancreas.  Although they have not done a biopsy to confirm, the doctor told him it was most probable cancer.  He was told he most likely would not return to his efficiency apartment. Nor be able to drive or be able to return to work.  He knows he may face radiation or therapy and will possibly live his days out in a full time nursing home.

At this time we are not sure exactly what all his needs whether it be financial or other.  His trusted friend Erica Hernandez and coworker has been given “Power of Attorney”.   His bank is opening a fund raiser account that will be available for future needs.   These funds could help with future needs that are not covered under benefits he hopefully will obtain.  As we learn more and have his account setup, we will send out that information.  Please pray for Kenny’s situation.
