Grey's Top Surgery Fund

My name is Rose and I am running this GoFundMe on behalf of my beloved friend, Grey Armstrong.

Grey is an incredible writer, educator, and dancer. He is a man who heals in every directional sense of the word... and now, he needs his community's help for the next chapter of his own healing journey: getting top surgery.

In Grey's words, "When I was younger, I was always proud of my body. I was strong. It… was only in puberty… that I learned shame. To me, learning to cover my chest was such a painful affair full of self-resentment. I… really want to be able to wrap a towel around my waist or walk around the house in boxers. It’s embarrassingly simple, and I don’t know how to explain it. To this day though… y’all, the idea of not having to worry about it, letting go of the harmful messaging I learned, and just getting to be a bro getting a glass of water after a shower without being self-conscious… priceless!

I dream of the day that I can walk across hot sand toward the ocean comfortably and feel cold water on my bare chest. I’ve always wanted to be able just to wear board shorts and go swimming. The idea of feeling carefree and relaxed in this way is unlike anything I've experienced.

Y'all, I want my shirts to fit right. I want to show off my shoulders and clavicles--hands down these are my favorite parts of my body! I want to wear the lowest cut shirts and vests like Black men did in the 70s, but in pure black. I want to wear a crop top and get that look that I just can’t get yet. I want to finally be able to buy a suit and not have to choose between my shoulders and my chest. I want to carve out my unique style and see who I am reflected in the mirror, on camera, and in the eyes of my loved ones."

Our goal is to raise $15,000 to cover the costs of the top surgery procedure itself, which will be paid entirely out of pocket, and to provide financial assistance during Grey's recovery.
