McMitchell Family Support Fund

On Saturday, August 11, 2018, The Diggs School community suffered a huge loss. Ms, DeJuana McMitchell's life was claimed by yet another account of gun violence blocks away from our school. Her death was unexpected and tragic and our condolences, hearts and prayers go out to her children and family. She leaves to cherish her memory two wonderful children that attend Ignite Achievement Academy at the historic Elder Diggs School. Ignite feels the impact further as she leaves behind a sister that is an Ignite staff member as well as a niece and nephew that also attend the school. DeJuana was such a loving and dedicated mother/aunt that could be found on a weekly basis serving the school community and volunteering her time to help support not only her own, but other scholars of Ignite as well. Her presence and impact will be greatly missed by the entire Diggs School Community.  At Ignite, we often say "Ubuntu," which means- I am because we are. It is our rallying cry now more than ever. If one in our community suffers, then we all suffer. In wake of such a devastating event, we at Ignite Achievement Academy are mobilizing our efforts and resources to support the family in as many ways as possible. We would like to ask members of the community to donate funds to assist in covering the costs of Ms. McMitchell's funeral expenses, as well as providing financial support for her children. To compound matters, the children also recently lost their father just months earlier. The depth of trauma the children may be facing at this time is simply unimaginable. Your assistance by aiding and supporting the family's financial needs during this time of grief would be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small. It takes an entire village to educate and rear a child and the children and family of Ms. DeJuana McMtchell need the support of the entire village during this life changing time. We, at Ignite Achievement Academy, would like to sincerely thank you in advance for being a part of the children's village of support.
