McKinney Family Support

On August 24th 2017 Liam Allen McKinney joined the rest of his family. He came a little earlier than expected and is doing well, but being born ahead of schedule comes with a handful of issues that we were not expecting.

He was in the NICU at Lutheran Medical Center for four weeks(He just got to come home yesterday). The care they provided was amazing, and we could not ask for a better team of professionals to care for our newborn.

He is making such amazing progress every day, but also required a lot of additional support that we know is adding up in bills we have not even received yet. From photo-therapy, oxygen, vitamins, and supplements to his milk every item is a billable.

Again we are so happy that he is getting everything that he needs, but the cost of it all being unknown is scary. On top of that our insurance is still in the process of adding him to our insurance and told us today that it will raise our monthly premium by over $400.

There will also be future medical expenses that we have not been able to calculate yet. He has a condition called hypospadia, that will require surgery with children’s hospital urology. We can’t even schedule this surgery until he his home and healthy enough to endure an operation. This will most likely be next year. It is a blessing that he does not require immediate surgery, but this also means we will be working off a new deductible, along with the higher premium.

Because he was born earlier than we planned and his care needs will be more than we expected Briana’s two month maternity leave will need to be extended to at least three months. We are hoping that she can stay home so that he does not need to go into daycare before he is absolutely ready.

All of the support we are asking for will be used to keep Briana home as long as she needs to be, and to help offset some of the increased insurance cost and incoming medical bills until his insurance kicks in and starts to pay for his care.

The peace of mind we would get from this will help all of us. We have been working through all of this as a family. Gabe and Arianna have been amazing with the stress of spending most of our family time in the hospital for the last month. They love their little brother, and were so excited  for him to come home.

Please if you can, consider giving to support our family.
We also ask that you would share this far and wide, as we know there are people out there who might help too, but only if they can see the need!

Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and considering what you can to help!
