McKinley's Study Abroad in Uruguay

Hello all! My name is McKinley Timm and I am a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh, originally from Lockport, Illinois. I am studying industrial engineering in Pitt’s Swanson School of Engineering and hoping to graduate in 2020 with a BSE and a certificate in sustainability. I am raising money to study abroad in Montevideo, Uruguay in May of 2018. I am participating in a program called “Global Supply Networks and Manufacturing Culture in Latin America” where I will be spending three weeks learning about engineering and business cross-culturally. This program counts as a three-credit course, and will fulfill an international requirement that I must complete for my major.
As well as counting towards my academic requirements, this trip is also going to be an amazing and unique experience and I am super excited to go! I will get to study alongside students from the University of Montevideo, tour companies in the area, and of course, sightsee around Uruguay! I hope to gain an understanding of a culture different from my own, and to utilize the Spanish language skills that I have not used much since high school. This trip is going to be an excellent taste of real world manufacturing settings and international engineering settings, helping me make decisions about the future of my engineering career.
Any funds raised here will go towards the following aspects of the program: airfare, three credits of Pitt engineering tuition, and a program fee paid to the University of Montevideo which covers housing, most meals, program excursions for business visits and sightseeing, and several cultural events.
Any contribution, regardless of the size, is appreciated more than I can explain. I’m sure I don’t need to explain that college tuition is tricky, especially for an out-of-state engineering student who can only make it home for school breaks by flying. I love Pitt and I do not believe that this program is unfairly or unnecessarily expensive and I have a wonderful family on my side, but I do readily admit to needing some help. Even if you cannot donate, please consider sharing my campaign with friends and family, and thank you so much to all who contribute to my trip!
