McGee Family COVID-19 Emergency

Donation protected

My name is Jen and I am setting up this go fund me to help my sister Michelle and her family as they are having to face Covid head on! In less than a week, my brother-in-law went from being our gentle giant to fighting for his life.

Marc is a 49 year old father to 3. He has 2 daughters Mariah and Miranda and a rambunctious 2 year old, Maverick. Michelle and his kids are adjusting to a family torn apart by Covid.

On Christmas Eve, Marc began to feel sick. They all thought Marc had another “man cold”. They settled in for a few days of being down with a cold, but decided to get tested when Marc began to sleep all day. He tested positive for Covid December 26th. They had all of the tools, oximeter, thermometer, fluids, vitamins....but that wasn’t enough. By December 30th Michelle knew she had to take him to the emergency room after checking his oxygen level. With Covid restrictions she had to drop her husband at the door and pray he’d be ready to go home in a few hours. They immediately admitted him and started his treatment. He was alone and unsure of what was next.

Things declined rapidly. His first treatment was oxygen, then bi-pap, and he continued to decline. By January 2nd, he was being intubated. Marc isn’t super sentimental and he felt it was time to say his goodbyes to his family. He told his wife to tell everyone he loved them. He didn’t think he was going to make it. We weren’t sure either. Michelle was able to FaceTime her husband, mainly just sitting with him as even talking exhausted him. A few minutes later they came in to intubate him.

Sadly, the breathing machine just wasn’t doing enough for him. He was declining so fast, his oxygen levels continued to drop and his kidneys were failing. January 3rd, she received the call that he needed ECMO to give him any chance of survival. They only problem is, the closest available was 3 hrs away in Kansas City. Flights were grounded, and his only choice was to go by ambulance. They weren't sure he would make the trip but they had to try. They packed him up and his wife waited outside the hospital for hours while they tried to stabilize him, ready to follow the ambulance so if he did pass he wouldn't be alone. Through a few miracles, and a lot of prayer,  Michelle was able to follow the ambulance and he made it safely to the hospital in Kansas City where they were able to immediately get him on ECMO and give him a fighting chance against Covid.

Every day is a blessing, but every day is also passed on pins and needles.  We will continue to provide updates as we have them.  If you are able to even make a small contribution they would be greatly appreciated.  With Marc being an Independent Contractor (Uber/Lyft driver) he does not have access to sick pay and was denied for social security disability because he chose to be self-employed.  The family is struggling financially and the medical bills and and travel expenses are quickly adding up.  Please don't feel pressured in any way financially. We absolutely need all of the prayers we can get.  Marc is fighting for his life hundreds of miles away from his family and the comfort of prayer is helping them all to make it through each day.  Please feel free to share this and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
