Update: As all of my friends are aware, we have been on a very difficult and challenging journey with my son, Forrest, for the past few years. Sadly, I have to let you all know that that journey has ended. Forrest succumbed to the leukemia on Saturday January 7, 2017. We are so overwhelmed with the loss, and yet thankful for our all too brief time with him. We ask for your prayers, that strength and comfort be granted to his mother, and my wife, son and me as we grieve.
Many of you have been helpful in so many ways over these years, and we all wish to offer our most profound thanks. We are making one last plea for any contributions that you may be able to make to be used for final arrangements and travel expenses, that the family can gather together to celebrate this brave soul. Our son, Michael, has endured many years of illness starting with being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when he was 16 years old. Once diagnosed, Michael fought his way back with the help of proper medication, although he still suffers from a disordered thought process. In September of 2009, however, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (also known as ALL). He was treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (we live in Austin) for 3-1/2 years, which resulted in a 5 year remission (from 2009-2014). Sadly, last October, bloodwork revealed that the leukemia had returned. All of this has taken a huge toll on our household and finances, especially with having to make the 330 mile round trip to Houston on a regular basis (10 times in just the first two months of treatment).
Any donations to this account will go to help offset the transportation and logistics expenses that we face as we continue to get Michael the care he needs. Rest assured that every cent will help make his recovery a little less overwhelming and we are so incredibly grateful for all the prayers, wishes, and support that friends and strangers have offered.
