Benefit for Eugene "Bucky" Shearer

Here is a man that has spent his entire life giving to others.  He was 18 when he joined the army and did a yearlong tour in the fields of Vietnam.  After seeing things most of us could never fathom, he came home to raise his family. Eugene worked 35 years as a sandblaster, taking many hours of overtime so that his wife, Barbara Bies, and children, Tracy and Heather, never went without.  He retired only after doctors declared him 100% disabled due to the silicosis he contracted through the back-breaking work.  In 1996, he selflessly donated a kidney to his sister, who would not have survived without the transplant.  Through the years he has been a loving and caring brother, husband and father, taking care of us all and being a wonderful grandpa to Tyler and Dalton.  He now needs our help.

 Eugene’s health declined rapidly over the last few years, and doctors recently realized his kidney was failing.  At noon on December 20, he was put on a breathing tube.  He was in a coma for 4 days, but this fighter pulled through and started breathing on his own!  What a Christmas miracle for our family and all the people that love him!  Now Eugene has been diagnosed with Wegener’s disease. He has dialysis 3 days a week and chemo once a month.  He has a slew of medicines and uses an oxygen tank that are costing him hundreds of dollars after Medicare coverage.  Most people who are diagnosed with Wegener's disease don't survive its attack on their kidneys -- yet Bucky, a man with compromised lungs and one kidney, has managed to beat the odds and is on a long road to recovery. Money raised at this benefit will help with Bucky's prescription co-pays and medical treatments.
