Pole Vault Fund

Hello! I'm Chris, I’m 19 and I am a pole vaulter. I am currently ranked 4th in the UK and have a personal best of 4.71m. I have recently been given the opportunity to represent England in my first international competition. To increase my personal best to higher heights and for me to start pushing for the top of the rankings, I need to purchase the next set of poles which are expensive; around £800 per pole.

A little bit about my journey...

I started off pole vaulting when I was 14 at Liverpool Harriers and after about a year I moved to Wigan Harriers because the type of coaching there was more specialised for pole vaulting. This is where I met my coach and started doing a lot more technique focussed training. The first few years have been very slow with improvements because I was focusing so much on technique and not so much on moving up to bigger poles. However, in those first few years I competed in multiple national competitions and medalled at the UK school games 2016, the English schools championships 2018 and nationals 2019.

Over the last couple of months, everything has started to come together and all the hard work is finally starting to pay off. I have started to progress a lot faster, achieving 4 personal best heights. I have become North of England champion, acheived 3rd place at the england championships and I have been selected to represent England which has all happened in just the last month.

As a result of becoming a lot stronger and faster due to my increased focus on strength and fitness training, as well as my constant improvements in vaulting technique all of the poles that I own have become either too soft or too small for me to use.

I know I can vault a lot higher than I am currently doing, but the poles that I use are restricting the height I can achieve. If I can get the next set of poles I am confident I’ll be able to achieve this year’s target of 5 metres, which is one step closer to achieving my dream of being part of Team GB.

Poles are really expensive, so I am looking for some help with donations to be able to afford them. So if anyone out there could donate, no matter how small it is, it would make such a difference and be massively appreciated!

Thank you.
