May's New Year

As you all know, this October, May Kong had an unexpected event in her life; a stroke.  Her sister Karen called her friends and co-workers to let us all know and the word spread like wildfire through our small hair transplant community.

Now, after months in the hospital, May is home and going through rehab.  She is not working, and she will have a big hospital bill, but at least her Daughter Iris has her Mom back!  I got to visit May in early December in the hospital, before she left rehab, and while she was having trouble finding words, her smile lit up the room.  She looked beautiful, and we both cried as we hugged.  I really miss just seeing her and my patients still ask for her, too.

At this point, May could probably use some help.  It feels odd to ask for money to help May, but sometimes it really is a wonderful way to show that you care.  She will need it for those hospital bills, for helping Iris in high school (college application fees? tuition?), taxes (?I plan to give my rebate to her in April) and generally for getting back on her feet.

May is a proud, strong woman who has always stood on her own, so I know she would not dream of asking for herself.  When I asked May if I could do this for her, she again was having trouble finding the words, but said, "I don't know if I can accept that, Doc."  You could hear the tears again, but I am sure she would never admit that.
