Hello everyone!
My name is Alex and I am a sophomore in college. I have had ongoing health issues throughout my life that culminated in 2014 when I had to have a brain and spinal surgery. While the surgery saved me from becoming paralyzed, it left me with life-long nerve damage and chronic pain. These two diagnoses combine with my raynauds, IBS, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and OCD to make my life a constant battle.
Over this past summer, my health has deteriorated at an alarming rate. This deterioration led the doctors to discover that I have Dysautonomia, a rare disorder that involves the break down of the autonomic nervous system. This diagnosis helps connect all of my other problems, offering a clearer basis for my plethora of medical issues. My doctors recommended that I fly up to Rochester, Minnesota to attend a month-long intensive at the Mayo Clinic. At the nation's top hospital, I will undergo intense testing and treatment by multiple specialists and hope to solidify a game plan for managing my disease long-term.
Since this trip will be outpatient and involves extensive transportation fees, the cost is incredibly high. I need $1200 by July 31st in order to keep me placement on the highly competitive patient list for Mayo.
Sadly, though I am in college studying English and Education, my doctors have urged me to take a semester off my studies because my health cannot wait. I am in a state that requires immediate treatment.
The Mayo Clinic is my ONLY option at this point. Doctors in Georgia are stuck and Mayo has the top dysautonomia clinic in the country. I am set to go up August 29-Mid September (dates vary passed off what the tests show, but minimum three weeks). Please help me raise my goal by July 31st and help me finally manage my illness and get back to my studies, get back to my life.
