M & J Heym’s son Tobey in PICU

Donation protected
From Mayland:
My son, Tobey Heym, is a 13 year old boy who became critically ill Thursday night, August 16.
He developed severe acute respiratory failure/bilateral pneumonia secondary to sepsis from MRSA in a few hours. He was intubated within an hour of arriving to the ED at Randall’s Children’s Hospital.
His heart began to fail. He was placed on ECMO (heart and lung by-pass) 4 hours later. He has survived over 72 hours of ECMO and has now been switched to only lung by-pass ECMO...a huge improvement! His heart is working! He’s woken up and responded appropriately. He’s moving. He’s healing.
We have Randall’s fantastic Pediatric ICU team to thank for Tobey’s survival and dedicated, knowledgeable care. The Pediatric ICU physicians are all ECMO specialists. The Pediatric ECMO Coordiantor, Chris, has worked so hard to make sure Tobey gets seamless care. The PICU nurses are so loving and caring. The CRRT (dialysis nurses) go far above and beyond. The RTs are always the quiet hero’s. Roxy our wound care nurse just rocks, as usual. Every detail is addressed.

If you are a Legacy employee and would like to possibly donate APL to Mayland, we will also be coordinating these donations for Mayland.
