For those of you who don't know me, I'm Kyle.
I am: a photographer, writer, bicycle mechanic, motorcycle nut, doodler, friend of many, and finally a fulltime student.
That last bit is the more important part of this. I am set to graduate in spring 2019, a year earlier than anticipated. I could push it to fall 2018, but that would be just a little too much. What I'm saying is that time is running out, and before I leave college I want to be able to make some proper memories. I want to really do something that could shift my perspective and path in life.
In January 2018 I was offered the chance of a lifetime. That is to study abroad with the Mayborn School of Journalism in London. That's right. This little south Texas boy is going to England.
What this program is – is UNT classes that just happen to take place in London. The program itself will take me all over the UK. I will also be given the chance to shadow professionals at some of the top agencies in the world.
(More importantly I’ll be able to show those brits what Texas charm really looks like.)
To me this opportunity is one of those forks in the road. It is a turning point that very well could determine the rest of my life.
But, and there is always a but...
I must ask for your assistance in this.
For those who are already familiar with me and my character you should know that it is not like me to ask for handouts. If I can't do it myself then I do not deserve it. Plan and simple. This mantra has gotten far in life.
This however is different. Now I'm not saying I deserve it, no that's not it. What I'm saying is I've been given a chance to really see what the world has to offer. And I want to show the world what I can offer it.
Now for the pitch.
If I have ever affected you. Made you smile, or for a second made you think "hey, he's not so bad." I hope that you can find it in your heart to help me fulfill a few dreams of mine.
And if you can't afford to give, if things are tight, then your words of encouragement are still worth their weight in gold. I will always carry those with me, no matter where the road takes me.
