Maya is my beautiful niece.
She is 12 years old and one of the most generous, positive, happy souls I have ever known....much like my brother.
Maya has a rare genetic disease called MPS that limits her physically and will continue to progress as there is no cure. On Tuesday, Maya had open heart surgery in Vancouver. There are no words to describe what this has been like for her parents and our family. Maya and her parents have had to spend weeks away from their Victoria home and her brother, Owen.
Over the next year Maya will need at least two more major surgeries and both my brother and sister-in-law will have to take numerous weeks off of work. We all have known the stress of financial struggles at some point in our lives. Our goal is find a way to lessen their stress just a little bit ...anyway we can. 100% of the funds that we raise will go towards their travel costs, rent, food and day-to-day bills that a regular pay cheque would normally cover.
My sister and brother-in-law have also started a (very successful) GoFundMe page as well to help support Jeff & Lisa (Maya's parents) ....if you have donated there, thank you!!!
