Max's Surgery and Medical Fund

Donation protected
We have started this Go Fund Me Campaign for a wonderful young man named Max. He suffers multiple seizures daily which severely effects his quality of life and leaves him very frustrated and angry at his lack of ability to do what other young adults do at his age. This has been a life long struggle for Max, along with Cerebral Palsy and Global learning delays. His mother Jen, is one of the strongest women and mothers I know and raises Max and his sister Maitland on her own with a limited income. A surgery has become available to Max in order to help diminish the amount of seizures he has and the amount of medication he has to take. This surgery came up very fast (in the next 2 weeks) and Jen is struggling as to how she will pay the the travel , stay and loss of income while away for the surgery. We are hoping we can rally the community together in order to help lessen the burden on this family especially so close to Christmas. Thank you in advance for your help and generousity, it means the world to myself, Jen and Max and Maitland.

Jen's story of Max:

Max was born at 28 weeks by emergency C-section the day before his birth the very active baby inside me quit moving and after a day of cold showers, hot baths and sweet treats to try and stimulate him, I was on my way to the Civic Hospital in Ottawa to be checked. Max was born 8 hours later, 3 months too early.
Due to Max’s low birth grams, And how ill he was he suffered an inter cranial bilateral hemorrhage that has resulted in a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, specifically mild left hemiparesis. To spite all odds Max learned to walk and talk and write his name and by age 7 he was even able to ride his own mini 4-wheeler.
At age 9 Max began having seizures, this month as we celebrate his 19th birthday, his seizures continue to be uncontrolled and have had a very significant impact on his quality of life. With a list of seizure meds numbering 15 tried and failed, he remains on 5 anti- seizure meds and continues to have 5 or more seizures daily. This has taken a toll on max both physically and cognitively. The meds are sedating, causing severe fatigue, they have hindered his appetite and cause memory issues. The risk of falling due to a seizure prevents Max from participating in many day to day activities.
We have had the opportunity to consult with a Doctor in London Ontario and Max is a candidate for a surgical procedure to receive a Vegas Nerve stimulator. The stimulator will send electrical impulses into the brain that will help reduce seizure activity. It is not a cure for Max, but it may significantly reduce the number of seizures he has daily, enabling max to reduce the number of medications he takes and ultimately increase his quality of life.
To spite his daily seizures, of 5 or more, Max still enjoys studying anything that is Star Wars and watching YouTube videos of anything Nerf. He loves to go out for coffee and walk through the toy departments at any store to see what is new in Lego and all marvel comic toys and of course anything that is new in the star wars collection as well. This surgery will hopefully help Max be able to explore more things around him, without the fear of multiple seizures.
