Help me get EMT certified!

Donation protected
Hello! My name is Max McManus. I am a freshman at Eckerd College and recently got accepted into EC-ERT (the Eckerd College Emergency Response team)! EC-ERT  is a student-run team dedicated to being Eckerd's first responders in medical emergencies. EC-ERT works alongside campus safety and responds to all imaginable emergency calls on a college campus; from alcohol poisoning, broken bones, to nasty scrapes from falling off a bike. With the commitment to help our campus, all EC-ERT members must be EMT certified by the end of their first year.

I have always enjoyed helping those in need, so when I learned that Eckerd offered an emergency response team, I wanted in.  Roughly 45 students attended the first recruitment meeting in hopes of joining EC-ERT. Because of the highly important and serious nature of the team, not all applicants could be accepted. After more than two months of training and cuts, only 15 of us made the team. Going through the recruitment process was rigorous, but it was one of the most rewarding things I accomplished my first semester at Eckerd.

Since I have joined the team, I have made so many great friends and learned so much about medicine and the impact EC-ERT has. The team has also given me the opportunity to go on a service learning trip abroad. We will be spending a week in rural Jamaica setting up and running four medical clinics.  When I return from the trip, I plan on working towards receiving my full EMT certification to continue my work with the EC-ERT.

In order to receive this certificate, I want to take a highly recommended Wilderness EMT course through NOLs (National Outdoor Leadership School) this May. The course is in Lander, Wyoming, and I will learn wilderness medicine along with urban practices. The cost for the course I'd like to attend is $3920.

To attend Eckerd, I am responsible for working to pay for a portion of my tuition. Between that and the service learning trip, it's impossible for me to have enough work hours available to raise the full amount on my own. I have already made $500 to put towards the course, but am asking for help on the rest of the cost. By funding me you will allow me this fantastic life experience and the ability to stay on EC-ERT for the next four years.

Thank you!
