Maximus' Extensive Medical Recovery

Maximus, my 21 year old son was in a life-threatening accident. He was hit by a car on his way to work early in the morning last week as he was crossing the road on a Lime Scooter.  The driver left the scene, leaving him alone, unconscious and bleeding on the street.  A passerby, out of the goodness of their heart, called 911.  In ICU with traumatic brain injury, which from what I can gather is a life-altering diagnosis, he also has a  cervical spine fracture, broken leg, fractured pelvis, broken rib, torn ACL with knee dislocation as well as a dislocated ankle with several breaks.  He is currently fighting an infection and while intermittently conscious he is disoriented, confused, and lethargic. As his mother I am with him at all hours allowed by the hospital.  A team of wonderful caregivers, including physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, not to mention the physicians, nurses and nursing assistants provide him fantastic care.  I have been told that his estimated time of acute recovery is a minimum of 6-12 months.  They anticipate transferring him to a rehab facility in the near future, but, as they put it, we are not "out of the woods yet."  Upon discharge from the rehab he will need to be housed with me with continued therapy for physical and cognitive restoration services.  He will still be facing further surgeries in the future and at this time, I am unsure what to anticipate, but it was suggested to me to start this page for support and encouragement.  If you feel led to donate to our situation, our appreciation will be enormous and our gratitude unending.  Our needs are immediate and any help that can be provided ASAP would be a God send, as I continue to commute daily, prepare the home-front for his return, consider what supplies are necessary and what supports are required.  For such an unforeseen event and still dealing with the shock and trauma, I will do my best to continue to provide you with update on progress and needs, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers.
