November 9 - Update!

Family & Friends,
I love when I get to share good news. Today's news is not just good, it's AMAZING!

BABY MAVERICK GOT TO GO HOME!!!

Just this afternoon, Baby Maverick was able to leave the hospital and arrived home ready to take on the world (well, his little corner of it for now anyway)! Better still, doctors now believe that he may in fact be able to LIVE A LONG LIFE, assuming everything goes well with his treatments. How great is that?!?!?

Kara and Michael are beyond relieved, as are all of us I'm sure. That being said, there are certainly a ton of unknowns ahead and Baby Maverick will need extra care to ensure hes able to lead a healthy life. The hospital bills have already added up over the course of his NICU stay. Let's come together to alleviate the financial burden as best we can!

Thank you to all of you for your continued support!

With Love,
J

November 2 - Update!

Family & Friends,
We have a new update for you on Baby Maverick's condition. He's continuing to improve and they've even been able to start bottle feeding him! Check out the adorable new photos below.

Mavericks new diagnosis is Pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy, which is a B6 deficiency. This condition is extremely rare - somewhere in the neighborhood of only 100 cases WORLDWIDE. People with this type of seizure can be medically treated with large daily doses of pyridoxine (a type of vitamin B6 found in food). Even though seizures can be controlled with pyridoxine, neurological problems such as developmental delay and learning disorders may still occur. Mavericks MRI shows some brain abnormalities, however, they're unsure if it's brain damage from what he's been through or simply bruising that may heal.

While having a proper diagnosis is a relief, doctors expect that Mavericks seizures will return at some point. It will be a matter of working on the right mix of medications and treatments to keep them under control (if possible) to avoid any further brain damage. At the moment, they have given him a life expectancy of 5 years. While not as long as we may have hoped, we're grateful to have Maverick with us at all and look forward to providing him with all the love and support possible.

Kara and Michael will certainly need their village of family and friends to continue to support them and Maverick as they navigate this uncertain path. Thank you for all of your love and encouragement - Kara, Michael and Maverick send their gratitude.

October 30 - Update!

Family & Friends,
Kara asked that I post an update on Baby Mavericks condition. A lot has transpired over the last few days.

His doctors have found a solution to stop his seisures and he is steadily improving!!! So much so that they were able to take him off of intubation and he OPENED HIS EYES today! They are taking these small victories as one step closer to being able to take him home.

He still has a very long road ahead, as they continue to run tests and monitor his condition. Your donations are helping to offset the medical costs associated with ensuring the very best care for sweet Baby Mavericks recovery.

Your thoughts, well-wishes and prayers are certainly felt - please keep them coming.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

The photo on the left was from Friday 10/27. The photo on the right is from Sunday 10/29.

Today he opened his eyes!!!

October 27

Family & Friends,

As many of you may know, baby Maverick has been in the NICU for the last several days. He has been diagnosed with Neonatal Burst Suppression Encephalopathy, also known as Ohtahara Syndrome, as well as Lactic Acidosis and Cerebellum Hyoplasia + Mild Rentriculomegaly. His prognosis is terminal and he is not expected to make a recovery.

In an effort to alleviate the concern of any possible medical or other related expenses, I have set up this page in support of the Coltrin family.

All funds will go to support Maverick, along with his loving parents Kara and Michael and big sister Raegan. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
