Mav Fights Against ALL

Maverick was diagnosed with Leukemia on Wednesday 3.14.18. We found out on a sick visit check up after fighting the flu for 4 days. He was looking great on the outside, but aparently not so much on the inside. His pediatrician did basic blood which he didn't like the results of. He then sent us to a Hematologist at Joe Dimaggios to rule out Leukemia. Upon arriving to the hematologist, they took a million tubes of blood and the results werent in Mavs favor. They revealed some unusual cells. Later that day we got admitted to Joe Dimaggios Oncology department. That evening he got a piccline inserted into his left arm along with a blood tansfusion. Thursday he was scheduled for a lumbar puncture, a bone marrow, and his first round of chemo. The results of the tap and marrow would answer all of the unanswered questions. Mav has B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) which if you had to pick a type to have this would be the one to pick (the survival rates are over 90%) We have 3 years of treatments ahead of us. Overall Mav is doing great. THANKFULLY this is not in his spine which is great news. If his body fights properly, he can blow this thing within 2 months. Regardless he'll still be getting 3 years of treatments, labs, scans, transfusions, and tests.
Around November Maverick was having ankle problems, one week the left one would be bothering him, one week the right one would be annoying and back and forth back and forth. So we went for xrays to make sure all was good, and it was, a little TLC and R.I.C.E. apparently would do the trick. I went with it and called it a day. On January 6th in the afternoon, we went to Off The Wall. 15 minutes in he collapses and can't stand up so automatically took him to the ER. They did an Xray and it came back that Mav had broken his femur. The hospital then wrapped him up comfortably until we were able to get in to see the Orthopedic, which wasn't until that following Monday. The sent us home with Tylenol and a wrap for a broken femur. TYLENOL? For a broken femur? Really? For the next 48 hrs Mav gets no sleep, has no appetite and is in excruciating pain because the hospital couldn't do anything for him. Monday afternoon January 8th, we get to the Orthopedics, they get more xrays, they cast him, and give him pain meds. I asked if they could do blood work and more xrays to prove that this was in fact just a freak accident and nothing more. They insisted that he was fine that it was just wrong place wrong time, that there were no shadows in the leg xrays etc etc. 5 weeks later on February 12th Mav got his cast off, they told me he wouldn't need physical therapy that it would all come together in a matter of time. 3 weeks later he still couldnt walk and get around on his on. We are now March 8th. Mav gets an awful flu, temperatures to 103.5, pale, body aches, extremely lethargic. I get him into the pediatrician office where we were seen by not his original doctor. They did a finger prick and determined that Mavs WBC was through the roof, sent us home with a "drink lots of fluids and Tylenol every 6 hrs" (not so fun fact... he failed to tell me that his platelets and hemaglobin were tanked) So as I feel would be normal, I made an appointment with Mavs PCP at his earliest available appointment which was Wednesday March 14th at 830 am. I explained everything to the PCP and he didn't seemed too thrilled about what I said, so he repeated the blood work. He didn't like the results so he sent us to the hematologist where we got the devastating news.
Obviously, there will drastic loss of income, ridiculous hospital bills, new lifestyle that requires more severe attention. All we ask is that you keep Sweet, tough, little Maverick in your positive thoughts and prayers.
