Maureen Fights For Lexi's Life

Donation protected
Lexi and her mom need your help.

Lexi, a happy and loving little rescue dog, had been enjoying her life in her forever home. One of her favorite things as she lived day after happy day with her family had been her walks with her mom. It was on one on these walks, however, when Lexi's life took a terrible turn. On this fateful walk, a large dog, off leash, attacked Lexi twice.

Before the attack, upon seeing the large dog, Lexi's mom had stopped. She moved Lexi and herself behind a construction barrier to shield Lexi as best as she could. The large dog, ignoring calls by the owner to return, came on and lunged for Lexi's neck. At one point, the dog let Lexi go only to grab her again in the abdomen and start shaking her. The attack ended only after the large dog's owner was able to separate them, but it was too late for Lexi. She was severely injured. A passerby called 911. Lexi's mom, bitten as well, refused medical attention when the EMTs arrived and begged them to help Lexi. Lexi was raced to a local vet for immediate attention. X-rays were taken and pain meds were administered. Lexi had deep bite wounds all over her little body and internal injuries. She needed to be stabilized for emergency surgery.

Lexi was transported to the Upstate Emergency Clinic and a 5 hour surgery was performed to repair her injuries. She had suffered a tear in her abdomenal wall, a torn diaphragm and broken ribs. Major reconstructive surgery was performed, and then Lexi was placed in an oxygen chamber for recovery. The next 48 hours were critical for Lexi and painful for her mom and family, as they knew Lexi was fighting for her life and needed to be as quiet as possible during the critical hours post-surgery.

Within 24 hours of her emergency surgery, Lexi was sedated for a bandage change. Shortly after, this horrific situation began to change as this little rescue dog began the journey back to her family. Lexi's strength slowly returned. She started eating. As the days in the hospital progressed, so did Lexi, so much so that she has been released to her mom's care. Lexi continues to improve everyday.

We are asking for your consideration in helping Lexi's mom. The total bill for all the veterinary care that saved Lexi's life is $6500. Her mom, a musician and music teacher, is considering selling her musical instruments to pay the bill. That's how much she loves her little girl. We don't want to see that happen, and humbly ask if you would consider donating to help offset the costs of the emergency veterinary care that rescued Lexi from the injuries of this terrible attack. Lexi was rescued once by her loving mom, who could use our help with rescuing Lexi again.
