Maui Needs Surgery

Our dog Maui is very sick and needs surgery to save his life. After losing our wonderful dog Lilly to liver failure a few months ago, our puppy Duck badly needed a playmate. We met Maui at a local rescue, and they were best of friends within minutes of meeting! They've been playing roughly 26 hours a day since. We've only had Maui a couple months, but already this sweet, bubbly, playful boy has made himself an indispensible member of our family.

Things took a turn for the worse last week. Maui had been throwing up for several days. After a visit to the vet for x-rays and blood work, there was nothing obviously wrong, but our boy had stopped eating entirely. Our vet recommended we hospitalize him and have an ultrasound done, which we did. He looked so scared and confused when we left him at the hospital for the night.

His ultrasound shows that he has a foreign body constricting his intestines. The doctor thinks he swallowed a length of cloth or rope. It's very likely a piece of the rope toys he and Duck are so fond of playing tug with all day.

Without surgery to remove it, Maui will not make it. We've spent over $2500 so far to diagnose his problem, but the surgery will cost close to $6000 more. We desperately want to save our boy, but we spent most of our savings trying unsuccessfully to save Lilly not long ago, so we need to humbly ask for help.
