This is Mathew. On any given day you’d find Matt working in his garage fixing someone’s car, or rebuilding his racecar. You read that right, this guy can actually build a car from scratch! He knows everything about them and put all his love and passion into them, until, of course, he found a love that was even stronger. When he met Kim all bets were off and it wasn’t too long before Jaxson came along. From a childhood of really no privilege and every opportunity to fail, Matt built a life and family that gained the respect and attention of his family and friends.
At 34 years old and wanting to ensure he would be pain free to get through the ‘rough and tumble ‘ years with his son, he made the decision to go in to Saint Elizabeths Hospital for corrective back surgery on December 14, 2017. When he opened his eyes the life he had built and loved was completely changed. In one instant he realized he couldn’t feel his legs and all the ramifications of that flooded his thoughts. How do I raise my son? What about the mortgage? How do I support my family? Can I work? Will I walk again.
We can’t imagine how many more thoughts have now become the center of his world but as his extended family we want to do whatever we can to help Matt, Kim and Jaxson and we knew the first step is sharing his story. Everyone has struggles but the kind Matt is dealing with now rock the center of your understanding of who you are, your purpose and your faith. Those are the moments you can’t do alone. He is going to need every kind of support for a little while.
Matt has never asked for a handout, has worked for everything he has and would much rather give than receive. But he is going to need ramp access to his home, a bedroom on the first floor, rehab, daycare…
We are setting up a donation fund for his support and are asking you to please share his story. If you can give we are all appreciative, if you can donate labor to help with repairs... but even if you just keep him in your thoughts and pray it would mean so much for his support and healing.
