Matts Guillain-Barré Syndrome Fight

Donation protected
We are putting together this Go Fund me Page for Matthew Williams, hoping to ease the financial burden he is enduring after being diagnosed with the very rare Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS).  Matthew is a delivery man and house painter, neither of which he will be able to do until he is fully recovered.  Resources are very limited and he lives alone.  All of Matthews Family lives in the Western New York area.  He has been living in Seattle since 1996.

Matthew was admitted to Swedish Medical Center, Cherry Hill Campus, Seattle, WA on Sunday, May 21, 2017 after he was experiencing extremity numbness, swelling in his throat, mouth and face and unable to walk/talk.  He was officially diagnosed with GBS on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.  As of now, he has paralysis in his arms and legs, double vision, trouble talking and eating.   We are being hopeful and positive with our thoughts and prayers that this will not be permanent and be a story of full recovery.

From healthline.com, "Guillain-Barre syndrome is a rare condition in which your immune system attacks your nerves, leading to muscle weakness and even paralysis. The exact cause of Guillain-Barre is unknown, but it often occurs after a viral or bacterial infection. There’s no cure for Guillain-Barre, but most people eventually make a full recovery. Recovery can be slow, lasting anywhere from several weeks to several years."

Matthew has already completed a 5 day treatment of Immunoglobulin.  It is determined that he has Miller Fisher syndrome which is form of GBS which is a shorter version, but still a very complicated road to recovery.

He is being so strong and we believe he will make a full recovery. We believe a positive attitude dictates the future. His family is being strong for him and giving him much moral support.

Matthew will be released from the hospital on Wednesday June 7, 2017 due to insurance coverage restrictions.  He is being released with double vision, difficulty walking, talking and eating and will need to continue going to Outpatient Speech Therapy, Occupational and Physical Therapy.

The funds raised would be used to ease the financial burden of Matthew’s monthly living expenses, his health insurance and copayments. It will be extremely helpful for Matthew, to not have to deal with the financial burden so he can focus on rehabilitation, get better and back to work and his life in Seattle.

The recovery process is expected to take a minimum of several months to a year.  Thank you to everyone for your support, whether it be a message, prayer, or donation.

Respectfully,

Friends and Family of Matthew Williams
