This is the story of our daughter Matti.
Just days before her 2nd birthday, Matti suffered a seizure that lasted over 30 minutes. She was rushed to the ER and then to the hospital where she continued to have numerous seizures over the next serval days, resulting in a brain injury which left her paralyzed on the right side of her body. Through rehab over the next 3 weeks, she was able to walk again and use her right arm. To this day, there are still deficits in that area but nothing that hinders her too greatly.
Matti is a very loving and happy child, approaching her 4th birthday. Everyone that knows her speaks of her beautiful, warm smile and happy disposition…. Our baby girl doesn't meet a stranger, that's for sure. A year after the initial onset, an MRI revealed that she had severe scarring on the left side of her brain; severe enough to the point that the doctors were amazed at how far Matti had come and how well she functioned when they saw her (after they read her MRI results). Although she does not talk yet, as that part of her brain was effected, it is our hopes and prayers that her brain will continue to heal and she will one day talk, which brings us to where we are today.
Through research, we have found that there is an e-treatment for brain injuries being performed in Jacksonville with the use of hyperbaric chambers. However, the insurance will not cover it. As parents, we want to exhaust every effort possible to try and help get this treatment for our precious child and to help her heal. As most know, brain injuries are difficult and slow to resolve. The research we have done has shown this procedure to help with this process. Our wish is to try and get this treatment for our baby girl to help her live as productive of a life as possible, and it is with that in mind that we humbly ask for your help and support in offsetting some of these medical costs that we are going to incur.
