My name is Kathi Faler, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my husband, Matthew Faler. Matt is a 57-year-old former U.S. Marine, a loving father to our daughter, and my partner in life since 1988. 

In March 2026, Matt was diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cirrhosis. Without a liver transplant, this condition is terminal. Our family is now facing one of the most difficult battles of our lives. 

Matt has already overcome so much. In 2022, he suffered a stroke that left him legally blind. Because of this, he now lives on Medicare and receives only $1,150 per month in disability benefits. Even with insurance, we are learning from transplant support groups that the costs surrounding a transplant can be overwhelming. There are many expenses that insurance does not cover, based on typical post-transplant out-of-pocket expenses like lifelong immunosuppressants, follow-ups, travel, specialist and indirect costs. These expenses can easily add up to thousands/year even with coverage. 

We are doing everything we can to stay strong and hopeful, but we simply cannot do this alone. 

If you are able to help in any way, even $1, it would mean the world to our family. Every donation will go toward Matt’s medical care, transplant-related expenses, and the support he will need during recovery. 

Most importantly, we also ask for your prayers. Our faith is very important to us, and we truly believe that with God all things are possible. After nearly four decades together, our greatest prayer is for a successful transplant and many more years together as a family.
