Matthew Lewis Memorial Fund

Matthew Lewis, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, passed away Wednesday, June 28 tragically in a car accident. Matt was passionate about many things in life, particularly his family, the pursuit of learning and the KC Royals. Matt’s world centered around his wife, Courtney, and their three children, Jackson, Lily and Olive. He was also a great brother and son who loved spending time with all his family. Matt was an educator, devoting his time to learning and teaching. Among his most meaningful accomplishments was earning his PhD in Education from KU. He was gifted in the classroom and an advocate for equal rights and social justice. He lived what he believed- teaching children in the inner city, supporting adult literacy programs and volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters. He was a voracious reader, a talented writer and above all, worked to be a positive role model for children. Matt was also a lover of music and food, using his creativity in both when making meals or writing songs for his kids. He loved trying new restaurants, KC BBQ and tailgating. In life, Matt was surrounded with love from family and friends. He is survived by his wife Courtney, his son Jackson and his daughters Lily and Olive; his father John, and Deb Lewis; his mother Pauline, and Larry Woolman; his parents in law, Joe and Kathy Fisher; his brother Nate, and Penny Lewis; his sisters Sarah and Amelia Hulvey; his sisters in law Mary Kate Istre and Laura Fisher; his Grandma Jean Horst; and nine nieces and nephews.

This campaign is intended to help defray the future educational expenses for Matthew and Courtney's 3 children, Jackson (10), Lily (7 )and Olive (4).
