On August 30, 2022, Matt, our friend and co-worker’s life changed dramatically when he was diagnosed with acute leukemia, a rare form of blood cancer. With years spent dedicated to his health and fitness, this news came as a devastating shock to Matt and his family.
Matt was immediately transferred from Sault Ste. Marie to Health Sciences North Sudbury where he started both intravenous and cerebrospinal fluid chemotherapy. Unfortunately, his cancer did not respond to initial treatments, and he ultimately had to be transferred to Ottawa General Hospital for more intense treatment options. Moving forward, Matt will spend his time between Ottawa General Hospital and Sault Ste. Marie as he continues to receive treatment in hopes of reaching remission and, ultimately stem cell transplant.
In typical Matt fashion, he has been taking everything in stride and pushing through intense chemotherapy despite complications and scares along the way. By his side always is his wife, Shana, who has significantly reduced her hours at work in order to support Matt at each step of the journey.
We ask you to help ease the burden on Matt and Shana so they can continue focusing on facing cancer head-on. Over the next days, weeks, and months there will be countless trips, hospital stays, and doctors' appointments. The price of everyday living and travel – hotels, food, gas, and medical expenses can be astronomical. Your support will enable Matt and Shana to concentrate on fighting this awful disease.
From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly ask that you share this link with friends and family and in giving. Any amount will help.
Thank you for being so supportive.
