Help Matt Demaskey fight GBS

Hello all!
Almost a year ago, Matt Demaskey was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). GBS is a rare autoimmune disorder that causes the body’s immune system to attack its nerves. His disease was triggered by a bacterial infection that he contracted at Punch Bowl Falls a few weeks after his graduation from Prairie High School. Although an estimated three to six thousand people per year develop GBS, Matt is one of twenty-one cases in the world that have reached this severity.
After contracting the disease, Matt was admitted to the hospital where he spent eight months in the intensive care unit (ICU). During the course of his care he suffered pulmonary embolism, cardiac arrest, aphid, blood clots throughout his body and lungs, gall stones, kidney stones, and severe pneumonia. Since then, he has been in and out of the hospital. He has had to relearn to talk and is still unable to walk, eat, or even use the restroom on his own. Because of the damage that has been done to his nerves, it will take years for Matt to recover. His family has been through so much and unfortunately their struggle is far from over. This is a family just like yours or mine and they need our help! They should not have to go through this alone.
Matt now lives in the dining room of his home and is cared for by his family almost 24 hours a day. He lives on TPN feeding- intravenous feeding- to be sure he gets the necessary nutrients and vitamins for survival and rehabilitation. Throughout Matt’s week he has physical, speech, and occupational therapy as well as weekly blood draws and bathing. He lives with his dad, stepmom, and 4 siblings. In addition to the regular costs of caring for a family, the medical costs they have incurred are tremendously high and insurance coverage only goes so far.
Today, Matt is back in the ICU and has been placed on a ventilator to help him breathe.
Because treatment for this disease is so slow and costly, I am asking for your help! Please help in easing the emotional and financial burden of this disease for Matt and for his family.
