Dear Friends:
We hope everyone is doing ok in this stressful and uncertain time. Similar to all the other restaurants in Southern California and much of the nation, we have closed our doors indefinitely to dine in customers in response to COVID-19. While we hope this situation is temporary, it is definitely necessary in the realm of public safety.
We are still serving "To-Go orders," when they come in, but the truth is that we have had to lay off almost all of our workers for the time being. This is heartbreaking for us because without a staff there is no Matsumoto, they are the heart and soul of our restaurant.
With this being said, we want to attempt to provide something for them and their families in this difficult time. We are raising money from our community of regular patrons, family friends, neighbors, and anyone else that would like to contribute to our team's lost income.
We are asking for help on two different levels.
1) Please donate what you can to this GoFundMe page in support of our staff and their families. If you are unable to donate, please share the link to others. All funds will go directly to staff. Any amount goes a long way. We do not know how long this situation will last and when we can get back to normal, but this donation can provide some help. We will keep a close record for anyone that donates, and you will be remembered well once we reopen.
2) If you would like some sushi or any of Matsumoto's fare, please call us and place an order. Opening Matsumoto four years ago was a lifelong dream for us. And before it was Matsumoto, this restaurant has been here for over 30 years when it was Hirozen. Our founder and primary sushi chef has been here for over 20 years.
Many of you reading this have been coming here the entire time. We love our customers and serving them from the bottom of our hearts, and we do not intend to close. Please feel free to recommend us or share our menu with anyone you think would be interested. We are navigating an unprecedented situation here, but we know the if we all pull together, we can all get through this.
