As everyone is fully aware, due to the spread and necessary containment of COVID-19 in the Chicago area, all bars and restaurants have been forced to unexpectedly close their doors end of the day Monday, March 16th. As of right now, this temporary ban on bars and restaurants will last until March 30th, with rumors circulating that it may in fact be longer.
While there are many places that are going out with their last hurrah, the Matilda staff felt it would be best to close right after Governor Pritzker's initial announcement as we feel it is necessary to avoid the further spread of COVID-19.
Unfortunately, the employees of Matilda have been displaced since the sudden closure of the business which is on top of business slowing down as everyone takes recommended precautions and stays at home. While our thoughts and prayers are with everyone suffering with this virus, our immediate concern is for our employees and their families who's livelihoods depend on the hospitality industry.
We therefore look to the local Matilda community and generations of regulars to provide any aid possible to allow us to help our employees make it through the next few weeks. This is an amazing staff and a great neighborhood bar that has served our community for over 25 years. We imagine this is a tough situation for many and of course, those who are able and any help from the community will be immensely appreciated. Together, the Matilda family can get through this.
100% of donations that will be made through GoFundMe will be split between the employees of Matilda to cover their regular wages for the time they will not be able to work.
