Hello everyone! I'll be starting a Master's program in August to get my M.Ed. in Education and Learning. I've already learned so much and made many connections with students in my current role as an academic coach. I am excited to learn more through this program and become an educator.
I received an $8,000 per year Diversity Fellowship, which is going to help me offset the costs of the program. However, I will be paying $16,000 out of pocket. Additionally, I need to take a couple of exams and there are miscellaneous fees associated with earning my teaching credential ($500-600).
There is an immense responsibility that is held by educators. They have the power to make a difference in communities for generations to come. This is why my goal is to become an educator. The field of education has given me a comprehensive worldview and allowed me to begin making a change in my community. I have confidence that my experiences of living in some of the poorest and most violent geographical areas, along with my transfronterizo student background will help me bridge gaps between various groups of people. A goal of mine is to earn my doctorate and conduct research to combat social injustice, systematic oppression in border communities and help these communities become independent, understood, and empowered. The High Tech High community and Teacher Apprenticeship Program aligns with my core values of educational equity, authenticity, and learning through activities that are meaningful and relevant to learners, giving the choice and voice in how they learn. This program will provide me the opportunity to keep growing and learning as an educator inside the classroom and outside in the community.
