Dear Friends, Family and Friends of Friends,
I'm reaching out because I have decided to start on a career path in the field of wellness. I've had an increasing interest in complementary medicine and natural or holistic healing modalitlies in recent years and I'm looking to further advance my studies in this field. I had major hip surgery last year with a lenghty and involved healing and recovery process. This chronic injury and subsequent healing journey sparked my interest in body work. I learned how conventional medicine, like surgery and alternative healing therapies, like physical therapy and massage, go hand and hand to facilitate a deeper healing process in people on the level of their bodies. I believe these injuries or wounds held in the body also effect us on the emotional and mental level. Because of this, I am deeply interested in helping others on their healing journey, as I have been helped by so many practitioners all across the spectrum of medicine, therapy and wellness to improve my way of life and become a more whole, happier and healthier person.
I'm fortunate to live in beautiful central Vermont with my boyfriend, Isaac, and have already been accepted into a wonderful and affordable 600 hr massage certification program in Hyde Park, VT at Green Mountain Massage School, run by the talented Andrea Altman. This program starts in late August 2017 and finishes the following May, for a total of 9 months of study in subjects ranging from anatomy and physiology to reflexology, shiatsu and Swedish deep tissue massage. Aromatherapy; herbal remedies and spa treatments; ethics of practice and business management for self-employment are also courses in this program. I am hoping to use this certification to jumpstart my career in the field of wellness and complementary healing therapies. I have already been awarded a generous $2,500 VSAC Grant (Vermont Student Assistanced Corporation) towards this Non-Degree program from the state of Vermont. Tuition for massage school is $6,000 total and with the VSAC Grant I have been awarded this means I will be financially responsible for $3,500 tuition plus ~$500 in textsbooks; the cost of a massage table and any other supplies or materials I may need.
Some of these expenses I can afford on my own, but not all of them. I have started working again after a lengthy recovery period for my hip and have put down a $500 deposit on the program. I was out of work for 6 months after my surgery, which dealt a blow to my finances and savings, as I had to live off what little funds I had, as well as the kind generosity of friends and family. Please help me make my dreams in a career path of wellness come true by supporting my Massage School Tuition Fund. No contribution is too small! Your support on my new career path in the field of wellness means so much to me.
