Please help Mason and his family with all expenses associated with medical bills, medical items, bills, missed time from work, etc. No amount is too little or too great. Every donation will make a HUGE difference for Mason and his family.
Mason is currently 1 yr 2mths old and has a twin sister Malaya. At birth, little Mason was born with down syndrome and a cardiac defect known as as Atrioventricular (AV) which pertains to the atria (the upper chambers of the heart) and the ventricles (the lower chambers of the heart). The AV node is an electrical relay station between the atria and the ventricles. Electrical signals from the atria must pass through the AV node to reach the ventricles. The AV node is a major element in the cardiac conduction system that generates electrical impulses within the heart, conducts them throughout the muscle of the heart, stimulates the heart to contract and pump blood, and so controls the heart rate.
His first surgery was January 21, 2014. Because of prior challenges, Mason has now received over (20) transfusions which includes 3 units during his 3 surgeries of multiple procedures. Mason has a GI tube and expected to have open heart surgery in late August or early September. He will also have other surgeries that will be required non-related to his heart condition that were recently discovered which was done on August 11th for 4 separate items. Mason full AV repair was done September 11th. He remained there a few weeks after with some lung difficulties. He continues to have heart problems as has a moderate hole on the left chamber. He is continued on heart meds, lung meds and being monitored. He recently had complications with his Nessen which is being repaired on February 4th.
Prior to this, Mason's Mother was laid off while pregnant but kept her insurance through COBRA as she was aware then that Mason would be born with some difficulties. Currently, Stephanie is caring for his sister Malaya along with Mason's health conditions and numerous doctors appointments daily. It has been a strain for her to seek employment at this time. In fact, the doctors have suggested that she not work at all at this time.
He may need to undergo a series of surgeries to correct this disorder.

Mason is also in need of Blood donations for pediatric heart surgeries, 4 units of red blood cells and a jumbo pack of platelets must be available You can donate blood every 56 days and platelets every 14 days To donate you must be in good health, at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. 16 years can now donate if they weigh at least 130 pounds and present a signed "Blood Center" parental consent form. There is no upper age limit. Wait one year after a body piercing. Individuals with high blood pressure (below 180/100) or controlled diabetes can now donate. You cannot donate if you have been exposed to hepatitis. To donate platelets or if you have medical questions and/or been out of the country since 1980, call The Blood Center's Metairie Donor Center at 504/887-2833. An appointment is needed to donate platelets. Please drink a lot of fluids and eat before donating.
