Masoka Village: transforming parklands into African villages

Donation protected
I have a vision of transforming public spaces across Australia into temporary African villages, complete with villagers! These villages will feature authentic African huts, cultural artefacts, storytelling, music and dance performances and workshops, and traditional African dishes for all to enjoy.

In 2022, we attempted this for the first time in Adelaide. My team and I poured our hearts and souls—and my entire life savings—into bringing Masoka Village to life. It was our way of sharing the beauty, richness, and vibrancy of African culture with the community.

Tragically, just hours before we were set to open the village gates to the public, a terrible storm destroyed everything we had built. After a year of hard work and personal sacrifice, the weather left us with nothing to show but heartbreak.

Since that devastating loss, I have been determined to bring Masoka Village back, stronger and more sustainable. My team and I have worked tirelessly, applying for grants and seeking funding, but so far, we haven’t been successful. That’s why I’m now turning to you—our community—for help to rebuild this dream.

Masoka Village is more than just an event. It’s a celebration of African heritage—a space for storytelling, music, delicious food, and connection. It’s a way to bring people together, to learn from one another, and to immerse ourselves in the beauty of African culture.

With your support, we can make this dream a reality in 2026 and ensure it lives on for generations to come. Here’s how your donation will help:

• Building Authentic African Huts: We plan to construct durable, reusable huts that can be used at future events, ensuring sustainability and reducing long-term costs. This also includes purchasing cultural artefacts, such as traditional furniture and kitchenware, to represent diverse African cultures authentically.

• Creating an Immersive Experience: Your contributions will cover essential costs such as venue hire, insurance, and paying talented African performers, artists, and storytellers to breathe life into the village.

• Purchasing a Van: A van will allow me to travel across South Australia and beyond—participating in events, running workshops in schools to educate and inspire young minds, and showcasing African culture wherever and whenever the opportunity arises.

This project is a labour of love, born from my own journey as an African Australian. It’s a chance to give back, to share the beauty of African culture with the broader community, and to create something truly special that unites us all.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this page with your friends, family, and networks would mean the world to me. Together, we can rebuild Masoka Village and create a legacy of culture, connection, and celebration.

Thank you for believing in this vision and for joining us on this journey.

With sincere gratitude and hope,
